Early Years at the typical level of development

DSJ trend data (Blue) saw a rise with a 2022 improvement, and has maintained a GLD average above the National (red)comparison.

When analysing the areas of learning, many areas are similar with National benchmarks. However a significant difference is in Understanding the world outcomes, which was a constraining factor to GLD.

Phonics

At the end of Year 1, all pupils take a phonics screening check. Pupils who do not achieve the expected standard at the end of Year 1 have a chance to retake the test in Year 2. The chart below shows how our pupils performed in phonics compared with schools nationally. (Our pupils generally are at National average by Year 2 retake)

School utilises Read Write Inc. Phonics as it’s validated scheme.

Year 1 Phonics – working at the expected level:

Outcomes in phonics at Year 1 are broadly like National 2024 outcomes (Red) and significantly up on the previous year 2023 outcome a 20% increase.

Key Stage 2 – MTC

For mathematics in Year 4, each school conducts a Timetables check. This is a rapid recall of multiplications out of a maximum score of 25 answers against a strict time limit.

Key Stage 2

For reading, writing and maths in Year 6, each school was also calculated a progress score. A score of 0 or more means the school is performing as well or better than other similar schools nationally. A score of less than 0 means the year group as a whole did not make as much progress as similar schools nationally.

The exit cohort 23-24 and next years cohort do not have prior National benchmarks at KS1 due to covid. Therefore no progress values are reported this year.

Key stage 2 – working at the expected level

National Vs DSJ

At Key stage 2 outcomes at the expected level are lower this year, as attainment is below 65% in RWM combined although above National comparisons. When analysing 3 year trend DSJ outcomes are broadly similar in maths and writing and above National in Reading and RWM combined. Progress in writing Is especially significant and reflects schooldevelopments in recent years.

Key stage 2 – working at Greater depth

DSJ 2024 proportion of pupils working at a greater depth is lower than national at 7.7%. The proportion of pupils working at greater depth is similar to national in Reading.
