Today, a pupil stopped me in the playground, eyes wide, pointing skyward:
“Where do you think that plane’s going?”
We played the game — guessing destinations, imagining adventures.
(It’s always surprising how many are flying to Skegness!)

That moment of awe — simple, spontaneous — is a spark. A spark into the world of aviation. And as teachers, we have the privilege to kindle it.
The Primary Futures Aviation in Primary Schools programme does just that.
It opens up the skies — not just to pilots, but to engineers, air traffic controllers, ground crew, designers, and dreamers. It shows our children that aviation isn’t just about flying — it’s about curiosity, teamwork, STEM, and seeing the world differently.
Our last years Y6 took part in this project linking different aviation specialists to school though a class video conference and we have re-applied for this year too.
We don’t just teach facts. We nurture futures.
And sometimes, it starts with a glance at the sky and a game of “Where’s it going?”
Let’s keep those sparks flying.

We are also pleased to share that following this work, we have gained enough information to be awarded the Bronze Award from Primary Futures. This is in recognition of the work DSJA does to promote career awareness for our children.
