Preparing for Life’s Big Adventures

Art

Art and design at our school is taught in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum. Our curriculum is planned to ensure full coverage while developing pupils’ creativity, skills and knowledge progressively as they move through the school. Children are encouraged to explore, experiment and express ideas confidently through a range of artistic experiences.

Our art curriculum is structured to develop pupils’ skills and understanding across four key areas: Drawing, Painting and mixed media, Sculpture and 3D and Craft and design. These areas are revisited and built upon across year groups, allowing pupils to practise techniques, refine skills and develop increasing control and confidence in the use of different materials and tools.

Art is taught through clear units of work which provide opportunities for pupils to study artists, designers and craftspeople, explore a range of techniques and evaluate their own work and the work of others. Children are encouraged to take creative risks, reflect on their choices and develop a rich artistic vocabulary. This approach supports both skill development and creative thinking.

Our art curriculum supports our school vision of ‘Preparing for life’s big adventure’. Through art, pupils are given the opportunity to express themselves, develop resilience and build confidence in their own creative abilities. Art encourages individuality, curiosity and imagination, helping children to see the world in different ways and preparing them to approach new challenges with creativity and confidence.
